Investment Banking Salary & Bonus Report: Analyst to VP
The real numbers. We break down Investment Banking Analyst, Associate, and VP compensation (Base + Bonus) at Bulge Brackets vs. Elite Boutiques.
Compensation structure
You are here for the comp. To get the offer, master the Technical Learning Pathway.
Investment Banking compensation is Base Salary (paid bi-weekly) + Year-End Bonus (August for Analysts, Jan/Feb for Associates and up). The bonus is where the money is, and the golden handcuffs.
Figures below are New York / Street front-office pay for the current cycle. Two caveats: national and global survey averages run lower than top-group NY pay, and bonuses swing with the deal cycle. Treat every number here as a range.
Analyst
Straight from undergrad, ages ~22-24.
| Component | First-Year | Second / Third-Year |
|---|---|---|
| Base Salary | $100k-110k | $105k-125k |
| Bonus (cash) | $65k-100k | $85k-145k |
| Total Comp | $160k-200k | $185k-230k |
- Base is largely standardized across the street. The analyst band runs $100k to $125k over the three years: first-years anchor near the bottom of it, and base climbs toward the top by the third year. Bulge brackets sit low in the band, elite boutiques a touch higher.
- Elite boutiques (Evercore, Centerview, PJT, Perella Weinberg) push the top: top-ranked Year-2 analysts can clear ~$250k all-in.
- Third-year analysts are now rare, since most banks promote to Associate after two years.
