The most valuable mock interview I did came from a tyrannical second-year MBA while I was preparing for final rounds. No smiles. No pleasantries. Relentless grilling.

He was hostile and rude, and he was right. I got a question wrong, and I got it wrong because I did not truly understand certain line items in the 3 financial statements. His words: "Dude, if you don't understand that, it's not even worth it. It doesn't really matter if you can answer every other question, because you don't actually understand the fundamentals."

That was crushing to hear, and it was the thing I needed. I spent the following week on the three statements until the gap closed. That one mock was the best investment I made in the entire recruiting process.

Your job as a mock interviewer is to simulate high-pressure reality.
